What Do Rabbits & Eggs Have To Do With Jesus Christ
The answer to that question is NOT A THING! HOWEVER, they have a lot to do with the PAGAN celebration for the Mesopotamian Goddess ISHTAR (pronounced without the sshh sound, the modern translation of EASTER the more likely name for the goddess)
Ishtar was a goddess of FERTILITY, hence the rabbits (well known for pro-creating) and eggs, also a symbol of fertility. From Mesopotamia the worship of this goddess, also known as “Queen of Heaven” went to Babylonia. One of the many myths regarding this goddess was that one of her lovers was swallowed by a huge fish which became his sarcophagus until much later when he was resurrected supernaturally. The pagan priests honouring him wore ‘fish head’ hats. Seafood is also associated with the modern celebration for the goddess.
The Babylonian ‘fish’ symbol is used today purporting to have something to do with Christianity. The teachings and words of Jesus Christ in the holy bible mentions Jesus and His disciples eating fish quite regularly, BUT nothing is said about fish in regard to the articles of worship for TRUE CHRISTIANS.
WHAT did Jesus Christ teach His disciples and therefore His followers (Christians) to remember? John 14:12-13. Whoever believes in ME will do what I do. Jesus followed the will of His Father in heaven and tells us to do the same. Then whatever we ask the Father in Jesus name it will be done. WHY? So that the FATHER may be glorified. John 14:21. Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, loves ME and will be loved by My Father and I will love them and show Myself to them.
Jesus Christ taught His disciples many things during His three and half year ministry prior to His crucifixion. Most of what He taught was written in the Old Testament which Christ read out on the Sabbath for all the people to hear. Christ preached what is written in the Old Testament BECAUSE the Old Testament has the physical explanation of the spiritual New Testament Church. Jesus is the High Priest of the SPIRITUAL New Testament church which He BEGAN.
Paul explains in Hebrews 9:1-8 that the physical temple of the Old Testament church (the congregation in the wilderness) was a “type” of the New Testament spiritual church. Behind the second veil of the physical temple was called the “holy of holies.” The replica of God’s throne was there, atop the Ark of the covenant. NO human was allowed behind that veil, except the High Priest and then only ONCE a year, on the day of ATONEMENT. On that special holy day, the High Priest took the blood of the sacrificial lamb for the SINS of ALL the PEOPLE and presented it on the altar before GOD. BEFORE Jesus Christ, it was NOT possible for any individual person to approach GOD. This was the time of human Priests.
However, WHEN Jesus Christ died as a sacrificial LAMB (Revelation 5:5-6) the VEIL of the temple into the “holy of holies” into the presence of GOD, split asunder (Matthew 27:50-51). Paul explains in Hebrews 9: 9-15 that this VEIL symbolises mankind as being cut off from GOD until a sacrifice for our sins is made by a worthy HUMAN who takes the sins of all people on HIMSELF and dies as a SACRIFICE for us. Unlike the ANIMAL sacrifices in the times of the Old Testament (which represented Christ who was to come) HIS sinless blood takes OUR SINS out of God’s sight FOREVER.
Every year in Old Testament times, the sacrifice of ATONEMENT removes sin and allows God’s people to become at ONE with God (Leviticus 16:7-8) Two unblemished kids (goats) were presented before the Lord. One to be sacrificed. One to ‘bear’ all the sins that have been committed by the people and take them OUT OF GOD’S SIGHT. These TWO goats together, represent Jesus Christ, (a scapegoat is an innocent who bears the penalty of the guilty). Both these kids are unblemished, yet one dies and the other takes the SINS away (Leviticus 16:21-22) One of the innocent kids is killed as an offering for sin and the blood taken behind the veil into the Holy of Holies, to the mercy seat which represents God’s throne in heaven. Leviticus 16: 15.
These TWO goats represent the SPIRITUAL actions of ONE man, JESUS CHRIST. Jesus Christ took upon HIMSELF the sins of ALL humanity. Christ became the sacrifice of blood that ATONES for sin. Jesus took the sins of humanity OUT OF GOD’S SIGHT and allowed all INDIVIDUALS access to the very throne of GOD.
Immediately before He died, Jesus showed His disciples how the physical SYMBOLS of the Old Testament church are revealed in the New SPIRITUAL Church. The blood of animal sacrifices is replaced by WINE representing the blood of Jesus Christ. Partaking of the bread depicting His body, shows us that His body becomes ours. The eternal death which is penalty of sin no longer needs to be paid by us. Jesus took our sins upon Himself and died instead of us. Matthew 6:35-40 Jesus is the ‘bread of life,’ Jesus came to do the will of the Father. The will of God is that ALL who follow Jesus Christ will be raised up to immortality at the last day.
At the original Passover, those who obeyed God’s instructions used the blood of the lamb to escape the death Angel in Egypt. The symbolic representation of the Lamb is Jesus Christ. Thousands of years later Jesus’ blood was shed in a sacrificial death to save ALL nations from eternal death. Mark 14:23-25. Jesus gave thanks to God and gave His disciples the cup of wine to drink saying “this is My blood of the New Covenant, I will no longer drink it until I drink it new in the Kingdom of God”.
Just as the lamb in the original Passover represented Jesus Christ SO the wine and bread of the New Testament symbolises the blood of the NEW Covenant. The journey taken that night to the promised land represents the Christian journey made after accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made, risking HIS eternal life for us. Now we look forward to Jesus’ return to usher in the Kingdom of God. (Revelation 20:1-7).
Rabbits and Eggs have NO significance in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They do, however show just how deceived and misdirected the nations of this world are by those who call themselves “shepherds of God’s Flock”. Let us look to the pure word of God in the holy bible and stop being “Fleeced” by these wolves in sheep’s clothing. 1 John 2:26-27 With God’s holy spirit to lead you, you have no need of any MAN to teach you.
